Bryan started training with weights at 14 years old. He was playing varsity basketball as a Freshman, and needed a way to keep pace with the older boys.
What started as a tool to enhance another sport eventually turned into the full focus of his career. At James Madison University, where he attended with San Diego Athletics co-owner Anders Varner, Bryan majored in Sports Management, and it appeared as if his career path was set.
After graduation however, he worked a number of corporate desk jobs until 2010. Anders moved to San Diego, and almost immediately, the plan was set in place to open CrossFit PB. In April 2010, Bryan and Anders opened the doors, and the true calling was finally realized.
Despite 14 years of dedicated training prior to opening San Diego Athletics (Formerly CrossFit PB), everything changed once this became the full time job. Bryan set his sights on becoming an expert in all things coaching, focusing specifically on programming. The mission was to get every athlete to exceed their own expectations of themselves. Through numerous advanced courses and certifications, the client base continued to grow, and the results accumulated. Within the first 5 years, Bryan and Anders had sent upwards of 70 athletes to Regionals, and managed to send at least one team to Regionals every year since inception.
Bryan’s own training continued to be a priority. He managed to make it onto three Regionals teams. In 2015, he competed in his first Men’s Physique competition, and placed 6th in his class. He has continued to prioritize his own training, but he now utilizes it primarily as a means of testing new ideas and concepts for the betterment of his athletes. The process continues to evolve, and Bryan is working hard to create a niche as a thought leader in the Fitness industry.
