Expanding the Flagship
Five barbells, 1,000 pounds of rubber bumper plates, five kettlebells, two sets of rings, a pull up structure built to hold 8 people, and a dream. 1277 Garnet Ave has been the flagship since July 1, 2010.
It is virtually impossible to do anything in Pacific Beach without hearing Eminem, 2 Chainz, DMX and Metallica pumping out of the garage door that has been the catalyst for more than a few car wrecks over the past three and a half years. The floors and walls are branded by a little blood, a lot of sweat, and a ton of hard work. What may not be so apparent upon first glance is the emotion and energy that hits you in the face when you walk in those double doors. CrossFit PB was a shot in the dark by a couple kids that knew they could mold the world and make a significant impact in other people’s lives. The tribe grew like a fungus under the watchful eye of every single Urgent Care nurse. The gym grew, the noise grew, and we were literally taking over the block. So we gave our tribe another home in North Pacific Beach, and it worked. Another year and a half passed and CrossFit PB was no longer a gym, it was a culture of people. A culture defined by strength, conditioning, nutrition, health, and longevity. This culture continues to spread through a network of athletes and individuals in constant search for improvement in life.
The search for improvement is universal. It is a must. There is no other way. CrossFit PB is a lifestyle that must continue to find new ways to improve, new ways to grow, and new ways to ensure the success of its athletes. On Feb 24, 2014 we embark on a new chapter in the chronicles of CrossFit PB. CrossFit PB is expanding to a 5,500 sq. ft. facility (more than double what we currently have) on the corner of Cass and Garnet Ave at 1019 Garnet Ave. The new facility is a standalone building, meaning we can blast music and drop weights at whatever decibel level we see fit. In addition to the 5,500 sq. ft. of usable space, we will also have designated male and female bathrooms, three individual changing rooms, and a storage room so there will be no random equipment on the training floor. The ceilings in the front half of the gym are 15 ft. high for wall balls, a 54 foot pull up rig, 12 squat racks, and 12 sets of rings. The rear half of the building has 20 ft. ceilings where climbing ropes will be hung as well as more space for wall balls. Rob Hammer Photography will be turning the walls into his own gallery with a wall of fame of CFPB athletes.
What will not be changing is the culture and vibe of this place we call home. The original mission and vision of CrossFit PB that have allowed us to fill 2 locations and now an expansion doubling our space on Garnet Ave, will remain unchanged. We will continue our focus on educating athletes on movement and nutrition, creating an environment that inspires change, and having a damn good time doing it.
Bryan and I would like to thank every single athlete that has ever walked through the doors of CrossFit PB. Whether you are still a member, love us, or hate us, you are a part of our story and we thank you. This expansion is for you all. You, the super rad athletes of CFPB, have pushed this exercise thing to a point that allows us to roll with over 8,000 sq. ft. of awesome Olympic lifting, kipping pull upping, handstand push upping, burpeeing, snatching, cleaning, jerking, and squatting badassery, in a 1 mile radius in the middle of the greatest party and beach town in the country, Pacific Beach.
